PART 1)
It is the year 1047 of the Third Age and the Kingdom of Gondor is one of the most prosperous and powerful states of Middle-Earth. Apart from Ithilien across the Anduin, Anórien, Lossarnach, Lebennin of the Five Streams, Belfalas, Lamedon north of the Ringló, and Anfalas or Langstrand in the south-west, Godor also ruled over Harondor or South Gondor, Calenardhon (where the Kingdom of Rohan would be found in a very distant future), Enedwaith, the Eastern Lands between Greenwood the Great and the Sea of Rhûn, Rhovanion and Umbar. However 32 years ago a tragedy happened for the Gondorians and the many long-lived Dúnedain remember it well. King Ciryandil spent his life long defending the port of Umbar against the Black Númenóreans who had lived there before, and the Haradrim who wished to capture the port. In 1015 T.A. after a reign of 79 years he was slain while Umbar was besieged. And now the new King, Ciryaher is determined to avenge his father's death and to show the might of Gondor to the Men of the South and those Valar-hating Black Númenóreans, whose ancestors supported Ar-Pharazon, whose foolish deeds lead to the Downfall of Númenór. For this, he has been gathering the largest fleet in the history of Gondor and innumerate legions of soldiers from all over the Kingdom's lands.
------------------------------------------
The memory of the last three years was tormenting, as Arhael remembered only too well all the places they saw, all the things they talked, all the happiness they shared, all the things they did, all the fun they had, all the melodies they sung... together! It was in Umbar that he had first seen her and from the very begginning she caught his eyes and won his heart. He remembered as if it happened just a day before: how she stayed there on the shore, how he approached and greeted her saying: "Gen suilon! Man eneth lîn, dess vain? Estannen Arhael." [Sindarin: "I greet you! What is your name, beautifull girl? I'm called Arhael"] and how the answer crushed him for a moment: "Lâ nisaphda Nimriyê!" [Adûnaic: "I do not understand the Elvish tongue!"]. "This language", Arhael responded in Adûnaic, "I haven't heard in a long time and since we lost hi-Akallabêth ["she-that-downfell-one" - a name of Númenor after her fall] it hasn't been spoken except by the... You are not a Black Númenorean, are you?" The answer came with a smile: "My name is Inzilbêth and since you obviously are an Elf-lover and it bothers you to speak in the language of our people we can use Westron." The answer puzzeled Arhael for a moment but then he replied: "Êphal êphalak îdôn hi-Akallabêth" [Adûnaic: "Far, far away now is She-that-hath-fallen"], "It's all right, I was looking for an occasion to practice my Adûnaic anyway." And thus it started, his first love, his first sorrow. After three years of bliss it came the time when both of them had to admit that thier love was impossible. She was a Black Númenorean, after all, her father was a descendant of the King's Men of old, that were responsible for the fall of Númenor due to their worship of Morgoth and their breaking of the Ban of the Valar. On the other hand theese King's Men held the Elves and their Dúnedain Elf-friends responsible for the fall and this way great enmity was between members of the same people, between the descendants of Númenor. Moreover the recent capture of Umbar by Gondor and the alliance between the Black Númenoreans with Gondor's enemies, the Haradrim, did little good to the relations between these Men of the West. And since the death of King Ciryandil in the assault of Umbar by the Haradrim and the Black Númenoreans things have become even worse. The Dúnedain wished to take their revenge for the centuries of persecution suffered in Númenor from the King's Men when they used to be still a united people and this time they had the advantage over the Black Númenoreans, as whereas in Númenor the King's Men were outnumbering the Elendili, now the Dúnedain Elf-friends had just defeated the already weakened descendants of those few King's Men that survived. However the alliance between the Black Númenoreans and the Haradrim was still considered treachery by Gondor. And so Arhael did not lost Inzilbêth, but was forced to willfully leave her and forget that she had ever existed. So sweet she was that she actually was the one to tell him it's over, as she knew it would have been too painful for him to be the one to say "It's finished!"
He returned to Edhellond, his native city in Belfalas and spent a good time with his Elven and Dúnedain friends, his theachers, his family, the wise men that cared for him, but still the memories did not die in him. His life in Edhellond seemed the same as always, bow practice, study of the ancient wisdom, bow practice, meeting with his brothers and cousins, bow practice, long talks with wise Elves, bow practice... Did I mention bow practice??? Although he was the best with the bow, his familly still insisted in getting this practice untill one day his father Angelimir realised that his son is not meant to be a warrior and let him go to Minas Anor [that would be much later called Minas Tirith] to study in the school of a wise Elf the ancient knowledge and gain the wiseness of a leader that he might need if he was ever to become Lord of Belfalas. So, after Arhael prepared his leave, took goodbye from his friends and received a Lothlórien bow and an Elven cloak from his Elven bow master, he wrote that crazy letter to Inzilbêth that he carried even now with him as he hadn't had the power to sent it.
But as he arrived in Minas Anor, the spectacular view of the Tower and the cool spring day were just the pretexts he was looking for that day to put away his thoughts about Inzilbêth and to look towards the new life that was about to start for him. As he reached the summit of Minas Anor and he gazed towards East he saw Osgiliath, the glorious capital of Gondor, shining in the morning sun and the armies of the King entering and exiting the city in an unbroken thread that looked like a second Anduin river from the hight of the summit. "What a great view!" said Arhael to himself. "Now on to find a place to stay..." He went down to a lower level searching for the Academy where he was about to learn. When he finally found it he saw an Elleth [Sindarin: "Elf-maiden"] talking to a Gondorian girl that was surely not of the Dúnedain. “Hmmm, these are obviously others that study at the Academy… Maybe they know about a good place to stay!” So he approached them and greeted them and asked them, in Sindarin, naturally: “I greet you! I believe you study at the Academy, right? I have just arrived in Minas Anor and I am looking for a place to stay here or in Osgiliath. If you could help me I would be greatful… Oh, but how rude I am I almost forgot to introduce myself! I’m Arhael Angelimirion. Would you like to tell me your names, too?”
[obviously the question is for Elwen and Morloth, as they are the Elleth and the Gondorian girl talking]
