I personally do not understand any attraction to Orlando Bloom, but whatever.
I think that the only reason I disliked Orlando Bloom for LotR is not because he's a bad actor, no, he's fine in PotC and stuff, but because he doesn't understand what it is to be an elf. I'm not trying to say he's stupid or anything, but elves are so multidimensional they really are a challenge.

I absolutely detest those who only watch LOTR to see Orlando as Legolas, because they don't have a clue what's going on in the story and don't care, all they want is some eye candy. I am actally a H-U-G-E Orlando Bloom fan, but didn't actually notice him at first in LOTR (even though I thought he was hott). I first noticed him in Black Hawk Down, even though he had a tiny part, I kind of recognised him and have seen him in every film he has ever been in up to now apart from Haven which I can't get hold of. He didn't ruin LOTR or Legolas, and some would say he was a poor actor at that time, but come on, it was his first movie, and it was a darn big one.

I'll agree about the rabid fangirls piratekiwi. Was LotR his first movie? I know it was his first big role, but I thought he had a very small part in something before that. He's alright all in all I think.

He is a good actor but I think he suits historical/fantasy films best, it's his register.

Yeah, ditto to that, Cirdan. Orlando seems best in those films, not the modern ones. He seemed out of place in Black Hawk Down. He didn't seem to fit in it.

What about that one with Kirsten Dunst? I didn't think he was very good in that either. It was a chick flick, yes, but I thought it was a little awkward. It may have just been the story. He said something like, "I can't because I have a date with destiny." I have to say, I thought that was pretty ridiculous. :-P

He's alright all in all I think. Yes, he had a small part as a rentboy in Wilde. I haven't actually seen it; I've just read about it. Orlando is one of my favourite actors, really. I thought he was really great in LOTR, but in POTC, I think he kind of could have done better. He was quite good in Troy (in my opinion), great in Kingdom of Heaven ... (I may be a big fan of his, but I'm not the screaming type ... ) He's a fantastic actor, and a wonderful human being ... It's what I think.

I think, as the PotC series went on his character grew, which was nice.

I have nearly finished watching his "Haven" .... a little too many "bad" words for my liking, though he was good ...
